Downy mildew resistance and genetic variability in a wild rocket germplasm collection

چکیده

One hundred accessions of a “core collection” Diplotaxis tenuifolia (L.) DC. and Eruca spp. were screened at seedling stage for resistance to downy mildew. Accessions tested the assigned 0–6 interaction phenotypes. All cultivated rocket (Eruca spp.) exhibited resistant (R) response both in cotyledons young leaves. The wild (D. tenuifolia) higher susceptibility than 1st 2nd leaves, with 16 47 classified as or partially (PR) cotyledon leaves stages, respectively. Only three displayed an R phenotype most frequent vs. was highly susceptible/susceptible (HS/S) combination (33 accessions), followed by S/PR (18 accessions). A significant correlation (r = 0.917, P < .000) observed between disease index molecular markers analyses revealed wide genetic distance Eruca, which gather two clearly separated species clusters. variability is accompanied diversity interactions pathogen isolate. closest similarities among D. found provided same breeding company. Future studies will be focused on main objectives: (a) assessment behavior that have evidenced R/R, S/PR, HS/PR leaf under greenhouse field production (b) genome mapping features provide mildew resistance.

Heritability and Genetic Variance Estimates for Resistance to Downy Mildew in Cucumber Accession Ames 2354

Downy mildew (DM) of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis, is a devastating disease of cucurbits. resistance is available but is not sufficient to eliminate the need for fungicides to control the disease. previously, the USDA plant Introduction collection of cucumber germplasm was screened in poland and North Carolina, and Ames 2354 was identified as highly resist...

Identifying Resistance to Powdery Mildew Race 2W in the USDA-ARS Watermelon Germplasm Collection

Powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera xanthii has recently become an important disease of watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] in the United States. The disease can be controlled with fungicides, but it would be more economical and environmentally safe to use genetic resistance. Here, we report sources of resistance to powdery mildew race 2W identifi ed in the evaluation of th...

Downy mildew resistance in Arabidopsis by mutation of HOMOSERINE KINASE.

Plant disease resistance is commonly triggered by early pathogen recognition and activation of immunity. An alternative form of resistance is mediated by recessive downy mildew resistant 1 (dmr1) alleles in Arabidopsis thaliana. Map-based cloning revealed that DMR1 encodes homoserine kinase (HSK). Six independent dmr1 mutants each carry a different amino acid substitution in the HSK protein. Am...

Mutants of downy mildew resistance in Lactuca sativa (lettuce).

As part of our investigation of disease resistance in lettuce, we generated mutants that have lost resistance to Bremia lactucae, the casual fungus of downy mildew. Using a rapid and reliable screen, we identified 16 distinct mutants of Latuca sativa that have lost activity of one of four different downy mildew resistance genes (Dm). In all mutants, only a single Dm specificity was affected. Ge...

Genetic analysis of developmentally regulated resistance to downy mildew (Hyaloperonospora parasitica) in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Although developmentally regulated disease resistance has been observed in a variety of plant-pathogen interactions, the molecular basis of this phenomenon is not well understood. Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype Columbia-0 (Col-0) expresses a developmentally regulated resistance to Hyaloperonospora parasitica isolate Emco5. Col-0 seedlings support profuse mycelial growth and asexual spore formatio...
